VENGAYA THUVAYAL/ ONION CHUTNEY

Simple tasty onion chutney serves as best accompaniment for dosa idli and even rasam rice or dal rice.
Coconut being the king of the chutney gets all flavours combined to give the best chutney . Do try out this simple recipe

INGREDIENTS

1. Oil 2tbsp
2. Mustard seeds 2tsp
3. Split black gram/urad dal 1 and half tbsp
4. Asafoetida/hing 1/2tsp
5. Dried red chillies 3
6. Green chillies 2
7.Onions 3 medium sized
8.Coriander leaves 2tbsp
9.Tamarind ball 1 marble sized without seeds
10. Salt to taste

PROCEDURE

1. Place 1 tbsp oil in frying pan when hot add mustard seeds dal asofoetida red chillies and green chillies . Fry till mustard splutters dals turn brown and chillies fragrant . Remove from pan and set aside
2. Put 1 tbsp oil in same pan add onions and fry till golden
3. Remove onions from pan
4. Combine all the fried ingredients with salt and 1tbsp water in a mixer and make it a smooth chutney
5. Serve with hot steam rice with ghee
