PANCHRATANI DAL

It’s a great comfort food made with 5 lentils to prepare a delicious dal on a boring Sunday. Very few mild spices and your all sorted by making this amazing dish.  Do let me know how u like it.

INGREDIENTS

1. Saboot moong dal (green) 1/4 cup
2. Saboot masoor dal (brown)
1/4 cup
3. Saboot urad dal (black) 1/4 cup
4. Chana dal (yellow ) 1/4 cup
5 Toor dal (yellow) 1/4 cup
6. Ghee 2tbsp
7. Black cumin seeds( shahi jeera) 1tsp
8. Onion 1/2 chopped finely
9. Coriander powder 2tsp
10. Red chilly powder 1/2 tsp
11. Turmeric powder 1/2tsp
12.salt to taste

????FOR TEMPERING
1. Butter 4tbsp
2. Tomatoe 1 finely chopped
3. Yoghurt 1/2 cup beaten well
4. Garam masala powder 1/2tsp
5. Seeds of 1 black cardamom crushed
6. Red chilly powder 1/2tsp
7. Coriander leaves 1/2 cup finely chopped

PROCEDURE

1. Wash all dals soak overnight
2. Heat ghee in heavy bottom pan add jeera and saute till it cracks
3. Add onion saute till light brown
4. Drain and wash soaked dals and add to onions bhuno for 5 minutes.
5. Add 5 cups water .. once it boils reduce heat
6. Add coriander powder red chilly powder turmeric and salt . Cover and simmer for 30 minutes until lentils are done.
7. To prepare tempering heat butter in a kadhai add tomatoes yoghurt and garam masala cook over medium heat until fat leaves the sides.
8. Add crushed seeds of cardamom stir for few seconds add red chilly powder
9. Add the cooked lentils stir for 4 mins
10. Switch off the gas add finely chopped coriander leaves.
11. Give a resting time of 15 minutes before you serve this with rice
