PADENGI GASSI MOONG GASI

PADENGI GASSI 
                When it comes to moong we mangloreans either make pessaratu or sundal or this padengi gassi. Its s coconut based gravy where freshly roasted and ground spices are cooked with moong well enough to give this dish the name of a comfort food. Do try out this recipe and let me know how you like it. 
INGREDIENTS 
1. Sprouted moong 2 cups 
2. Coconut 1 cup 
3. Onions sliced 2  
4. Coriander seeds 2 tbsp 
5. Cumin seeds 1 tsp
6. Methi seeds half tsp 
7. Black peppercorns 4 to 5 
8. Bedgi red chilly 7 to 8 
9. Garlic 8 to 9 
10 ginger 1 inch 
11. Turmeric 1 tsp 
12. Curry leaves 3 sprigs 
13. Mustard seeds 1 tsp 
14. Asafoetida 1 tsp 
15. Salt 
16. Sugar 
17. Ball size tamarind 
METHOD 
1. In a vessel boil sprouts with enough water and turmeric and salt . While it cooks prepare the masala.
2. In kadhai add little oil fry onions till brown roast coriander seeds cumin seeds methi black peppercorns red chillies ginger garlic  till fragrant add onions roast well till brown 
3. Grind these with tamarind and 1 cup water little by little to form a thick smooth paste. 
4. Add this masala to moong kadhai check salt. Cook on medium flame for 15 minutes.
5. For tempering take little oil add mustard seeds let it crackle add curry leaves Asafoetida and pour into the curry. Add little sugar 
6. Give rest time of 15 minutes .
7. Serve hot.
